CGPA to Percentage Calculator
Convert your CGPA to a percentage using the correct formula for your board or university — CBSE, Anna University, VTU, Mumbai University, or the general UGC rule.
Indian universities award marks as a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 10-point scale, but many job applications, higher-study forms and scholarships still ask for a percentage. Converting between them isn't universal — each board or university sets its own formula, so a CGPA of 8 can become anything from about 68% to 80% depending on the rule. This calculator applies the right formula for the option you choose so your percentage matches what your institution would certify.
How CGPA converts to percentage
Pick your board or university and the calculator uses its published rule. The most common is the UGC guideline, which subtracts 0.75 and multiplies by ten; CBSE multiplies by 9.5; several universities simply multiply by ten.
CBSE: % = CGPA × 9.5
Anna University: % = CGPA × 10
Mumbai University (Engineering): % = 7.1 × CGPA + 11
| Formula | CGPA 8.0 becomes |
|---|---|
| UGC / VTU — (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | 72.5% |
| CBSE — CGPA × 9.5 | 76.0% |
| Anna University — CGPA × 10 | 80.0% |
| Mumbai (Eng) — 7.1 × CGPA + 11 | 67.8% |
Worked example
A CGPA of 8.0 under the general UGC formula:
| Subtract 0.75 | 7.25 |
| Multiply by 10 | 72.5% |
Why the formula matters
Because there's no single national rule, using the wrong formula can under- or over-state your percentage by several points — enough to cross an eligibility cut-off for a job or a course. If your marksheet or your university's examination section publishes a conversion factor, use that; the CBSE 9.5 multiplier, for instance, is specific to CBSE class 10 and 12 results and shouldn't be applied to a degree CGPA. When in doubt, ask your college's controller of examinations for the official method.
